Ironic Humor
The humorous and mildly sarcastic use of words to convey something opposite from or different to the words' literal meaning.

In the video clip from the "Big Bang Theory", Penny describes her job at The Cheesecake Factory as "great" and hopes she's "a waitress at the cheesecake factory... for [her] whole life".
Script Leonard: Hey Penny how was work. Penny: Great, I hope I work at the cheesecake factory my whole life. Sheldon: Was that sarcasm? Penny: No. Sheldon: Was that sarcasm? Penny: Yes. Sheldon: Was that sarcasm? Leonard: Stop it! This clip is funny because it shows Penny, the waitress, complaining about her job. If the audience understands her words literally she enjoys her job but her voice contains a slight inflection. This shows that she means the opposite of what she is saying which exemplifies sarcasm: a type of irony.

Example below:
Important part of Script:
Blond employee: Nice day we're having.
This shows irony because the day outside must certainly not be nice if the employee enters the room covered with rain. Because of this humorous contradiction, this is an example of irony.
